The 1. meeting

Typically the meeting will start with a standard introduction of the company and the research institution.

Then, normally, the research institution (inventors, patent office, and perhaps the institution) will introduce the technology.

Level of detail

The level of detail should depend on whether or not a confidentiality agreement has been signed.

Of course it is important that the technology is introduced in such a way that it matches the company´s needs and interests as closely as possible, and not in the form that it takes for the researcher in the laboratory.

Introduction technique

Therefore, the research institution must do its homework properly so that the presentation is appropriate.

Try to remove the "tension" from the meeting and to establish a good personal contact with the participants at the meeting.

Reselling good arguments

Beware that the company representatives may have to "resell" the technology internally within the company and therefore need very good arguments.

Be ready to answer detailed questions and justify assumptions.

It might be a good idea to carry out a trial presentation in front of colleagues prior to the meeting and to agree on the roles of each participant from the research institution.

Road show

It is not uncommon to perform a "road show", where several potential collaboration partners (separately) are introduced to the technology, and afterwards to negotiate with various partners.
